International Jazz Day Youth Band Competition 2018 presented by Ubud Village Jazz Festival was held on 29th April at Colony Creative Hub, Plaza Renon.
The 3 finalists, who was selected by the committee, did their best performance by playing the mandatory, "All the things you are" by Jerome Kern and one free song.
Each of them played with different rearrangement, harmonization, and character.
"This is the seed that we are planting for a better Jazz ahead and for the next generation," said Yuri Mahatma as the Co-Founder of Ubud Village Jazz Festival. "We are going to do this competition every year".
The 1st Winner is JODA BAND. They played "Amor" and "All the Things You are" with great interpretation, and they seem to be very confident yet full of surprise. As a 1st prize winner, They are entitled to a time slot of performance at Ubud Village Jazz Festival 2018 and Recording Session at Antida Music Studio.
JODA BAND is Gavriel Baruch Azanya, Ezra Briant Azanya, Aaron Juan Pradana, Adam Juan Pratama , Keisha Claudia Indrianto, JeromeGABE.
The three judges, who also well respected musicians in Indonesia, I Wayan Balawan (Guitarist) , Koko Harsoe (Guitarist), Bogie Prasetyo (Drummer), said that the collective and solidity, and not a-one-man-show playing that each band has performed, improvisation, tight rhythm section, rearrangement and harmony, were the points of the judging.
Come as 2nd winner is " Senja and The Gangs" . They are Niken Rachel, Reno Joshua, Margaretha Christie, Pison Harry, Abraham Rudolf.
The 3rd Winner is "Plenary Session". They are Raymond Timothy Elkurnia, Renaldy Frederich Nathanael Magat, Adela Nathania, Jeovan Fillandro Dewanta Setyawan, Kenny Satrio, Gede Dehandra Dipastraya Wikananda, Made Dwi Andhika Yogiswara.
They were all rewarded Free UVJF Tickets for 2 days.
The event was closed with open jam sessions with some musicians who came.
